A number the Marketplace provides when you qualify for a health insurance exemption. When you fill out an exemption application, the Marketplace will review it and determine if you qualify. The Marketplace will mail you a notice of the exemption eligibility result. If you qualify for an exemption, the notice will include your unique identifier, called the exemption certificate number (ECN). Each member of your household who qualifies for the exemption will get their own ECN. You’ll need your ECN when you file your federal taxes for the year you don’t have coverage.

A federal law that guarantees up to 12 weeks of job protected leave for certain employees when they need to take time off due to serious illness or disability, to have or adopt a child, or to care for another family member. When on leave under FMLA, you can continue coverage under your job-based plan.

A Health Care Professional (HCP) person or entity must authorize a Consumer’s participation in a self-directed personal care program. For this program a HCP may be: a Physician, Physician Assistant-Certified Nurse Practitioner, Registered Nurse, Occupational Therapist or a Medical Social Worker as a member of a case management team for the purposes of Medicaid’s Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) program.

Someone who you choose to act on your behalf with the Marketplace, like a family member or other trusted person. Some authorized representatives may have legal authority to act on your behalf.
